Director Shoojit Sircar himself revealed this in an interview and lifted the veil on this secret and said that Amitabh Bachchan’s character in the film Piku was inspired by none other than Utpal Dutt. Veteran actor Utpal Dutt who impressed everyone with his funny style, jokes and deep characters in films like Golmaal, Shraddhanjali.
Shoojit Sircar said that whenever I saw Utpal Dutt on screen, I felt that how can a stubborn but clean-hearted person be shown in a real and interesting way. When I signed Amitabh Bachchan in the film Piku, I had this thing in my mind that I should be somewhat like Utpal Dutt in this character.
