Futuristic fantasy about Earthlings who settle on a distant planet, where they must deal with two conflicting cultures and some very bizarre inhabitants. Young Dr Driscoll Rampart (Neal McDonough) has been sent to the planet of Rustia, the so-called ‘armpit of the Universe’, on an assignment which he hopes will be short. But the planet’s strange allure and the patient influence of his mentor, Dr Akada (Paul Winfield), persuade Dr Rampart to temper his hostilities and he even begins to feel compassion towards some of his patients. Unlike Earth, Rusta does not turn on its axis as it orbits through space, with one half of the planet in constant daylight and the other in permanent nighttime; as a result, Rusta has two very different civilizations, one a genteel land of ladies and gentlemen, the other a feudal kingdom. As Rampant travels between the two sides of Rusta, he struggles to build a bridge between both sides in a world where the essential duality of man is brought clearly to the forefront.
