Charles and the girls go on a camping trip, with Caroline planning to join them later. Caroline scratches herself on a piece of baling wire, and the minor scratch soon turns into a serious infection. Just when she is about to succumb to her illness, Caroline opens her Bible to a passage where she decides to perform a painful procedure, which impresses even Doc Baker., With the rest of the family elsewhere, Caroline (Karen Grassle) is left alone on the farm for a day. Scratching her leg on a rusty nail, Caroline at first thinks nothing of this minor injury. But as infection sets in, Caroline grows weaker and weaker — and it looks as though neither Charles (Michael Landon) nor Dr. Baker (Kevin Hagen) will show up before it is too late., Caroline sends her family on ahead to the picnic grounds for the weekend, whilst what appears to be a scratch on her leg is quickly changing into a serious infection., Caroline fights for her life as a minor scratch flares into a major infection.
