Set in the Canadian Northwest, Hugon the Mighty starred Monroe Salisbury in the title role. Falling in love with French-Canadian damsel Marie (Margery Bennett), fur-trapper Hugon is understandably miffed that Marie prefers the company of spineless jellyfish Gabriel (Antrim Short). Swallowing his pride, Hugon takes it upon himself to make a “man” out of the feckless Gabriel for Marie’s sake. Alas, Gabriel remains a washout, but Hugon is a man of honor, and he stands nobly aside as Marie and Gabriel draw up wedding plans. Only after surviving a bloody battle with a group of surveyors who try to drive his fellow trappers out of the territory does Hugon learn that Marie has wised up and dumped the worthless Gabriel.
