Movie Review: Naam— A Taut Thriller Hampered by a Lack of Focus

What is the story about?

Still on the mystical realm of film but more practical, Naam is an eagerly awaited crime thriller in which a man gets involved with crime and fraud but strives for occasion of redemption. It’s the story of a man tormented by his own nature and trying to get away with murder. The thriller, part of a connected short story universe known as the Megaverse, will captivate readers with suspense and emotional themes.

Performances

With Ajay Devgn, it is always a treat to watch him from that emotional depth level to in-your-face intensity. Though some performances feel wasted, the supporting cast including Sameera Reddy, all are commendable and add heft to the narrative. The highlight of the film, undoubtedly proves to be Devgns conflicted character.

Analysis

While the movie has a terrific plot, some of the execution is less than inspired with traditionally predictable scenes and dialogues that seem old due to its release being delayed. The film’s pacing is uneven.

The film’s pacing is uneven, with some sequences dragging while others are gripping. Despite these issues, Naam holds interest with its emotional depth and engaging climax.

Music and Other Departments

The music complements the film’s emotional beats but doesn’t leave a lasting impression. The cinematography effectively captures the intensity of the narrative, while the editing could have been tighter to avoid pacing issues. The background score enhances the suspense in key moments.

Highlight

Ajay Devgn’s nuanced performance and the emotional narrative are the standout elements. The film’s climax and character-driven storytelling keep the audience invested despite its flaws.

Drawback

The Eighteen-year lag between filming and release works to a disadvantage, as some scenes feel outdated, while overall the pacing and uneven screenplay detract from the film. Characters were not fully developed, making their contribution to the plot less dynamic.

Did I like it?

Though not flawless, *Naam* makes it hard to put the book down; the film has some of the strongest performances Ajay Devgn has given. Being a fan of intense thrillers, I found parts of it griping but was unable to overlook the dated aspects of the film.

Will you recommend it?

If you like Ajay Devgn‘s acting and love emotional thrillers, Naam is a must-watch; the unpredictable it has justifies its not-so-good quality pacing and some easily predictable moments. Its only one-time watch for the person interested in character-driven narration.
