Jackpot movie review : ….abandons Awkwafina in pit of mediocrity
Jackpot!, starring John Cena and Awkwafina, is a disappointing action-comedy that fails to capitalize on its intriguing premise. Directed by Paul Feig and written by Rob Yescombe, the film tries to blend outrageous comedy with action but falls short in almost every aspect.

Despite having a cast with proven comedic chops, the movie struggles with poor execution and a lackluster script.

Cena and Awkwafina, both talented actors, are left floundering in a film that offers them little to work with. Awkwafina, in particular, is trapped in a role that doesn’t allow her to shine, while Cena‘s attempts at humor are undermined by the film’s inconsistent tone. The film also wastes the potential of supporting actors like Simu Liu, whose character is underdeveloped.
The film’s action sequences are uninspired, and its attempts at social commentary come across as shallow and half-baked. The overall pacing is sluggish, with several scenes dragging on unnecessarily, leading to a film that feels much longer than its runtime. Ultimately, Jackpot! fails to deliver on its promise of being a fun, escapist comedy.
