‘Whirlybird’ Beginnings

The history of the ‘whirlybird’ or helicopter can be traced as far back as 4th century China. A French inventor coined the word ‘helicopter’ in 1861. Inventors like Leonardo da Vinci, the Wright Brothers, Sikorsky, Thomas Edison and others perfected their designs, making this remarkable rotorcraft into the helicopter we know today.
