On this day number 3 of the retreat with Bhante Vimalaramsi, the discussion is around the topic of progress through the “Tranquil Aware Jhanas” as outlined in the Suttas. As the meditator goes deeper, Bhante talks about the “Levels of Progress” that he/she will go through on the retreat. These are not the “absorption” one-pointed concentration Jhanas, but the type that is in the suttas in which the meditator is aware of both mind AND body. These are only attained by using the Relax step or the tranquilizing process that is only talked about in the suttas. This is Majjhima Nikaya number 111 “The Anupada Sutta”. One-by-one.Bhante Vimalaramsi teaches “TWIM” (Tranquil Aware Wisdom Meditation) that is based on the instructions directly from the Majjhima Nikaya of the Buddhist Suttas. The object of meditation is Metta and the Brahma Viharas and ultimately this meditation will lead one quickly and joyously to awakening & Nibbana in this very life.
