7 8 Segment 2 The Word of God and church tradition provide us with several images of the bishop: as supervisor who functions as a superintendent of multiple churches under his/her care, as an apostle, who functions as one charged with the ongoing care of new churches and their leaders, and as a spiritual director, who provides challenge and encouragement. Bishops lead churches in associating with one another.
