River Ecosystems/Rainforest Adaptations

Program 1: Below clear tributary streams, larger rivers’ water becomes more densely populated, fertile and dark. Nesting birds are everywhere, and below the surface fish such as catfish feel around for food in murky depths. From temperate waters in Europe and North America to tropical waters such as the Amazon, adaptations are everywhere. Program 2: Water is abundant throughout Rainforests. It conceals many undiscovered plant and animal species on our planet, but the known flora and fauna reveal startling adaptations. We see striking mutualisms that evolved for jungle survival and reproduction, including sloths with algae and hummingbirds with flowers. The overwhelming biodiversity of these humid forests have unknown benefits that could be lost through human exploitation.
