Riding The Rails of WWII

The railways of England carried not only soldiers, but munitions, tanks, armaments and supplies during WWII. Ninety thousand were employed to protect the railways. A staggering 1,300,000 children were evacuated safely to the countryside in 1939. Over 123,000 women were employed, and special runs were put into place in just eight days. The railway systems proved to be indispensable during the war.
