A young couple and their daughter move into an old house haunted by spirits. City-dwellers Signe and Tommy Kongsted move into an old, charming house in the country with their 7-year-old daughter, Bianca. Soon, inexplicable things start to happen: food rots immediately, strange marks appear on the door, and Bianca plays with an imaginary boy called Oliver, whom the parents cannot see. One night, Signe hears angry voices arguing from downstairs, but an inspection of the house reveals no sign of uninvited guests. Calling the police, she learns of a tragic accident that took place three years ago, where a teenage girl and her younger brother died in a mysterious fire. The young boy bears a clear resemblance to Bianca’s friend, Oliver. Signe and Tommy find friendship and support in their new neighbours, David and Marianne. But as the mysterious disruptions worsen, Signe hires a clairvoyant, who attempts to drive out the spirits. The following morning, Bianca is nowhere to be found. During Bianca’s disappearance, a teenage girl, Sara, comes to apply for a nanny position. She offers to help find Bianca, and soon enough returns with her, safe and unharmed. Sara gets the job and not only the family falls for her charms but David, the neighbour, seems very interested. David and Sara’s attraction lead to a train of events that stir the mystical phenomenon into a burning revelation. Signe’s suspicions that the mysterious fire was a camouflaged murder are confirmed. But she doesn’t know that the culprit is someone close to her.
