Quit? No Way! No How! is a different ski movie. It features 16 volunteer seniors between ages 60 and 81 skiing over bumps and jumps, through trees, and learning how to ski in formation. The New Mexico scenery is stunning. Each skier models vitality and zest for life and comments on his/her inspiration for a life well lived. The movie’s purpose is to promote a positive cultural attitude toward seniors and the benefit of an active life style, life engagement, and companionship as preparation for a satisfying autumn of life experience. The movie is recorded in two parts. Part I (28 minutes) focuses on skiing. Part II (13 minutes) portrays the skiers. The year 2011 began one of the most far-reaching demographic events in American history. Baby boomers, those people born between 1946 and 1964 and who comprise approximately 1/4 of the US population, are becoming seniors. Why is this a big deal? America has never had a senior population of this magnitude. Our youth-oriented culture has neither the infrastructure nor consciousness to adequately address the impact of this event. The political, social, and economic influence of tomorrow’s seniors will be huge. This will be either good or not so good depending on how well we are prepared. Preventive health (for example an active, energetic life style) will go a long way toward making the influence of tomorrow’s seniors positive. The issue is not just America’s. It is world wide.
