In Search Of The Albino

Albino animals are very rare in nature. These “ghosts” of nature have fascinated humankind since ancient times. They too captured the interest of filmmaker, interpretive field naturalist, and adventure-lecturer Tom Sterling, who combined his professionally trained skills with the committed determination it takes to document these extraordinary animals in their natural settings. Sterling’s odyssey takes him across North America, where we learn not only about albinism and leucism, but also of melanism and protective camouflage among a wide variety of animals. The list of albino animals he encounters is large and to name just a few includes: white moose, white buffalo, beluga whale, snow geese, white raccoon, white deer, albino woodchuck, robin, turkey vulture, gray squirrel, jay, peacock, salamander, red fox, porcupine, catfish, alligator, barred owl, prairie dog, elk, and albino black bear (kermodei).
