“2 Broke Girls” at PALEYFEST on March 14, 2013. Dubbed an “Odd Couple for the 21st Century,” the show follows the mismatched roommates of street savvy Max (Kat Dennings) and now-penniless trust fund baby Caroline (Beth Behrs) who not only share living quarters but waitress together at a Williamsburg diner with the hopes of making their new cupcake business a success. This William S. Paley Television Festival live event honors “2 Broke Girls,” the comedy series about an acerbic Brooklynite and an Upper East Side socialite who try to fund their cupcake-shop dreams by waitressing at a diner.Christina McLarty (correspondent, “The Insider”) moderates the following panelists: series creator/executive producer Michael Patrick King; and cast members Kat Dennings (Max Black), Beth Behrs (Caroline Channing), Jennifer Coolidge (Sophie Kachinsky), Garrett Morris (Earl), Jonathan Kite (Oleg), and Matthew Moy (Han Lee). The panelists touch on such topics as: the cast’s worst jobs in real life; reflections from Morris on being part of the original “Saturday Night Live” cast; and King’s desire to write female characters that are not “entitled.”Questions from the audience then lead to a discussion of the following topics among others: changing jokes at the last minute based on the audience’s reaction; Kat’s apprehension of performing live; and the symbolic meanings of the girls’ beloved cupcakes.
