Richa Chadha is receiving praise for her inebriated lover role as Lajjo in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The performer acknowledged that she consumed a small amount of gin during a scene.
Richa Chadha chose the method acting path for her role as Lajjo in Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s first series on Netflix India, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The actress said in a Zoom interview that she abstains from alcohol, but she experimented with a little gin for her harsh, inebriated Kathak dance scene in the show.

“I didn’t understand how to do the inebriated dance on the first day. I decided to take a quarter and watch what happened after 30 or 40 takes. Yes, I drank some gin. I had a little drink, but it didn’t help. Richa Chadha expressed, “I didn’t want that sluggishness in the body movement; maybe the precision could go, but I didn’t want to let go of the grace.”

“I would have been better off acting inebriated than being a little tipsy. It’s a technical job; regardless of how much I dance, my clothing is quite heavy, and I have to engage and hit the mark. I like doing it,” Richa Chadha continued.

In an Instagram post earlier this week, Richa’s spouse, actor Ali Fazal, also praised her performance. Ali and Richa Chadha are going to be parents this year.
