In this second lecture on ancient Egypt, Dr. Neiman covers the reigns of Hatshepsut through Haremhab.Hatshepsut, a female, became one of Egypt’s most successful pharaohs by refusing to schedule the coronation of the heir, Thutmose III. Thutmose III succeeded Hatshepsut and put his energy towards war. Egypt became a great economic and military power and wealth accumulated among a new class of Egyptian – the middle class. The growing power of this merchant class ignited revolutions in art and culture known as the Amarna Age.Akhenaten led, then turned his back on the revolution. Haremhab, the scribe, was the final pharaoh of the18th dynasty.
