Marc Almond shot to world fame in 1981 as the front man and face of the syth pop duo Soft Cell when their dance-orientated debut single, ‘Tainted Love’, went to number one in the UK charts and became that year’s best-selling single in the UK. A major hit worldwide, it went on to top several other European charts as well as spending nearly a year in the US charts. Several more memorable Soft Cell hits were to follow, including 1982’s heart-wrenching ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’, before Almond struck out on his own, first as Marc And The Mambos and later under his own name. Over the years Almond has always maintained his musical integrity and has continued to develop his highly distinctive style of torch singing. Often challenging and occasionally dealing with controversial and sleazy themes, his eclectic musical style has gained a loyal following with his fans and he remains a favourite with club and dance audiences around the world. Since 1983 he has become one of pop’s most enduring and successful solo artists, with twenty-seven hit singles to his name, including another chart topper in 1989 with ‘Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart’ and a number four hit three years later with his memorable version of the 60’s cult classic ‘The Days Of Pearly Spencer’.Filmed at The Lokerse Feesten in Belgium in August during Marc Almond’s 2000 European Tour, this concert opens with a selection of his recent work, including three songs from his critically acclaimed 1999 album, ‘Open All Night’. These are followed by performances of his biggest hits from the Eighties and Nineties.
