Michelangelo’s David

Michelangelo’s David was more to the Renaissance Florentines than a Biblical figure; he was the personification of the ever-vigilant citizen-soldier. In this lecture Dr. William J. Neidinger explores the religious and political symbolism and artistic antecedents of the David, and discusses the reasons why it was decided to move the statue from its original location to the Piazza della Signoria.
