Rhodes’ Railway Dream

Rhodes’ dream was for a ‘red line’ on the map from Cape to Cairo. He was instrumental in securing southern Africa for the Empire. Rhodes was passionate about building the ‘Cape to Cairo’ railway. The first rail section was laid in 1860. Though most of the railway is in operation, a major part is missing between northern Sudan and Uganda. Rhodes’ dream remained a dream.
