Legacy: Solti & Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Recorded in 1971, this film shows the CSO in their first ever concert outside America. As Solti himself explains in the bonus included on video, the CSO are masters in German repertoire, to which they bring the American virtuosity. Solti summons tremendous power, elegance and clarity from the Orchestra and their subsequent performances of Brahms’s First Symphonyhave been praised for their “dignity, energy and splendour”, which led critic William Mann to write: “I am tempted to describe it as the United States’ most completely accomplished orchestra”.
