The League: Cast & Creators Live at the Paley Center

Mins :
Members of the cast and creative team of “The League” discuss the production of the show, who’s looking good in the Shiva Bowl, and why anybody would ever spend more than five minutes with Rafi. This Paley Center for Media live event celebrates “The League,” the “semi-scripted” comedy series about a group of friends (and one amazingly good sport of a wife) and their consuming passion for fantasy football. Actor/comedian Rob Huebel (guest star on “The League” as Dr. Russell Deramo) moderates the following panelists: series creators/executive producers/directors Jackie Marcus Schaffer and Jeff Schaffer; and cast members Mark Duplass (Pete), Jon Lajoie (Taco), Steve Rannazzisi (Kevin), Katie Aselton (Jenny), Nick Kroll (Ruxin), and Janina Gavankar (Shiva). The panelists touch on such topics as: Jackie’s idea for the show based upon husband Jeff’s desperation to stay updated on his fantasy football super bowls during a Christmas vacation; how the cast’s newfound interest in fantasy football informs their characters; and the importance of the story structure, inspired by the improv style of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Questions from the audience then lead to a discussion of the following topics among others: the show’s small budget and the need for cast members to use their own cars onscreen; attempts to reflect real NFL developments; and if the Jenny-Kevin coupling reflects Jeff and Jackie’s relationship.
