Controversy Erupts as Sanjay Leela Bhansali Allegedly Shifts Richa Chadha to Spotlight His Niece
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series “Heeramandi” debuted on Netflix recently, garnering positive reviews but also sparking discussions about historical inaccuracies and casting choices. Bhansali and his niece, Sharmin Segal, who portrays Alamzeb in the series, faced significant criticism from viewers.

A video from the series’ premiere has now gone viral on social media, stirring further debate. In the clip, Richa Chadha greets Bhansali and joins the cast photo, but some netizens speculate that Bhansali deliberately moved Chadha aside to ensure his niece Sharmin Segal was in the spotlight.
Comments on social media, with some suggesting that Bhansali’s actions were intentional, while others believed the video was misinterpreted. Some defended Sharmin Segal, stating she was trying to make space for Richa Chadha, while others felt Chadha should have been more considerate of Segal‘s presence.

Despite the controversy, some netizens argued that Bhansali was not at fault, pointing out that Chadha positioned herself in front of Segal, obscuring her from view.
“Heeramandi” boasts a star-studded cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sanjeeda Sheikh, alongside supporting roles played by Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah, and Adhyayan Suman.
