Hero Bob Steele is branded a terrorizing outlaw and seeks to clear his name in this oater, which is memorable for an eerie scene set in a saloon that’s littered with corpses. Buckshot: Al St. John. Nita: Caryl Lincoln. Sheriff Bower: Eddie Dunn. Lopez: Emilio Fernandez. John Evans: Al Jennings., Though the title suggests a seafaring melodrama, Port of Missing Men turns out to be one of Bob Steele’s western vehicles for Tiffany Studios. In fact, the film was hastily retitled Land of Missing Men when it turned out that audiences were as confused as the screenwriters. Under any title, the story concerns an outlaw (Steele) who isn’t an outlaw but pretends to be one so he can avenge his father’s death. Running up against such antagonists as a crooked sheriff and a gang of sheep rustlers, our hero really has his work cut out for him. The film’s single surprise comes at the end, when the good guys are rescued by a group of women! Real-life reformed outlaw Al Jennings shows up in a minor role.
