The director of Kalki 2898 AD, Nag Ashwin, had a good reason for believing that directing Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan was foolish.

Working alongside industry icons like Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan is an absolute dream. When he directed Kalki AD 2898, which starred Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in the key parts, director Nag Ashwin fulfilled his dream.

For any actor or director, working with Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan together is an experience of a lifetime. In an interview with Film Companion, Nag Ashwin discussed his experience directing these two industry icons and revealed that, as a director, he thought it absurd to dictate to them what to do.

“It was two years since I last directed, and my first shot was with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan,” Nag Ashwin stated in an interview. In the movie, he has a few pretty great action scenes. But both of them, Kamal Haasan and him, want to be led. They are more susceptible the larger they are. I’m unaware of Prabhas or Deepika’s celebrity and what their followers anticipate from them while I’m working, though. They are far more receptive.” he said.
Described his experience creating his fantasy world with Kalki AD 2898, Nag went on, “I basically created this movie for the 10–12-year-old me who would have enjoyed watching it. That child enjoys every action moment I included in the movie. However, there were some things, like food, cars, and people, that I just couldn’t seem to get right away. We would come up with ideas for how to ruin the world, but they would be featured front and centre. We initially imagined that individuals would use oxygen bars and masks, but that is already the norm.”
Nag Ashwin is the director and Vyjayanthi Movies is the producer of Kalki 2898 AD. Released on June 27, 2024, this multilingual, future-set sci-fi spectacular draws inspiration from mythology. Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Disha Patani play key parts in the movie.
